Our trip to Niagara Falls (Sept 9th-11th) 2005

So we went on our first "real" vacation since we've been married. We took a weekend trip to Niagara Falls Sept 9-12. Some people questioned why we were going so far for such a short time. Believe me, you only need a weekend up there!!!
The weekend started out on Friday afternoon waiting ever so patiently for the underwater camera case we ordered Thursday morning at 7am and had it shipped overnight. We wanted to waterproof case so we could still get good quality pictures with our digital camera. It came right at 2:15 as we were packing the car. We go to Buffallo at about 7:30 and drove over to the Anchor Bar, the birthplace of the original buffallo wings. They were delicious! The best wings we've ever had. It was very easy driving from Buffallo to Niagara Falls. We stayed on the American side which was worth the money saved. Once settled into the hotel we decided to walk on the American side to Goat Island to see the Falls lit up. Well there are no signs on Goat Island and we got lost! Thank goodness a park ranger was driving around, he led us to the right direction! It turned out to be a waste of time because the best view of the Falls is on the Canadian side! We walked around the "touristy" spot on the American side of the falls and it had the typical gift shops and what not. One thing we did notice was the type of "food stands" they have. Usually in any Northern big city (NYC, Chicago) you have your pizza and hot dog stands. Not on the American side of the Falls. All they have are Indian Food stands with plenty of people ordering from them! Bizarre. Another thing we noticed that night was that all the signs were in English and Korean! We're used to seeing Spanish and English, just an observation on how culturally different regions are!

Saturday morning we decided to walk across the Rainbow Bridge and head our way into Canada. In my mind I had this idea that it was a huge production to get into Canada. Nope just a 10 min walk across and show your ID and thats it! Our first stop was Maid of the Mist. Basically you take a boatride into the Falls. We were bombarded by a Korean tour guide with her tour of about 50 and almost trampled onto the boat. They provided us with ponchos and the views were breathtaking. The underwater camera case came in handy here! We then were off to the Journey Behind the Falls in which you walk and view the falls from behind. You get the wettest here. We then headed to the Butterfly conservatory which was incredible. There were thousands if not millions of butterflies free flying. The colors were beautiful. Our last stop was to the white water walk. Its a boardwalk along the white water rapids of the falls. Thank goodness our package we purchase with all the attractions include a people mover to take you to one attraction to another, they are not close together.

By this time it was about 6pm and we wanted to stay to get a better view of the Falls at night. We ate dinner and walked up this road called Clifton Hill which is a smaller yet better version of International Drive here in Orlando. There is your Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, Haunted Houses, 3 for 10 dollars t-shirt shops, arcades, etc. We ate dinner and decided to check out the Niagara Casino. Nothing major just a typical Casino with slots and gaming tables. By this time our feet were dead! Anthony brought the wrong sneakers to begin with so his feet were hurting regardless. The problem we had was that our shoes and socks got soaked on the Journey Behind the Falls. With walking the rest of the day the rubbing caused blisters on our feet. Unfortunately Anthony got the worst of it! He doubled up on socks to begin with by the time we got back he had bleed through both pairs of socks and his sneaker. He likes to call it the Curt Shilling of Niagara Falls!
